new tyre size
need new rear tyre soon, what size can i go for or do i just sick with180-55 ZR17 ?
cheers |
180-55 ZR17 is the norm for the MK2 and MK3 though some run a 170-55, that size also being the standard fit for the MK1.
I'm told it's possible to fit a 190-55, but it's not recommended on this forum. The general consensus being it would adversely affect handling, not least of all, turn-in speed. Hope this helps, at the end of the day it's your bike, so it's your choice. |
The MK2 &MK3 are actually fitted with 170/60-17 from Honda. Someone has already switched yours to 180/55-17. I'd stay with the 180, I run with it. Its only 5mm/side wider than the 170.

190 will carve into the chain guard nicely - 180 just a tiny bit - 170 was stock
180 is pretty much what most of us go with , MK1 stock rims excepted |
will stick with whats on then... cheers for advice.

i ran a190 on my 99F and itt worked a treat, pushed the peg up a few times too.
tons of room at chain cover. but i could never get the chicken-strip off it right to the edge, a good 7-8mm left hitting the peg down and feeling the front go light to a few brown trouser moments, but i'd say the newest model like my99 was all different arm and wheel sizes etc etc but bigger tyre did give me better mileage too, and didn't square off,, quite so square (due to breadth of its plane) and same price in uk |
Tire profiles too Ken play a big part on the chainguard bite thing, some brands more than others.
