just recently purchased 88 1000F Seems to run ok But with a Few minor issuec ...ie cam chain noise .. and a carb issue bike set for 1 1/2 years idles fine but rolling into the throttle it bogs down and in the heat of summer driving form stoplight to stoplight it will smell rich and seems to flood out fouling set of plugs... on the highway it does great go figure... have a local guy said he would get it funning right but he wants $70 per carb labor plus parts does that seem a little high ? or any local guys know enough about these to lend me a hand or recommend someone.. anyway just thought id introduce myself and my bike....im sure youll here more form me seeing as bike does have cosmetic issues and i really like the 1000xx front upper fairing gonversion write up and am considering that route myself Zach

As to the XX conversion, the guy you're referring to did the conversion on a third generation 1000F, I believe, and the difference between the first generation (your bike) and third generation bodywork is substantial. So, while he had some info that theXXuppers would match up to his lowers, that may or may not apply to your bike.

I used, I think, STP Carb Cleaner on my old V-65 Sabre, and it cleared up the bikes hesitation almost immediately.

the problem i believe with the carbs is the fact that old gas set in em for over a year i havent taken em off but i used carb cleaner while they were on and ran some though the gas tank.. as far as the body issues lower fairings are just little cracks ans scratches the upper fairing is broken on both sides just above where the mirrors mount on both sides and im missing the windscreen.. if i can find some parts id fix it im just having hard tim to locate them
