Default New Bike New Lease on life

Thought that might get your attention. Hi all I just got my bike about a week ago. I have only been riding for about ummm 4 months.

My first bike which I still have is an 84 night hawk 650 I love that bike but wanted to find something a little more sporty, something like a sport tourer. I test rode a FJR1300 at Iron in the Valley. and pretty much felt wow this is the kind of bike I should have. I found this bike on ebay and the seller was local to me so i contacted him finalized the deal and bam I got a new bike.

It's 1988 with only 9100 miles when I got it.. well it has about 9400 now... Any way it was a one owner bike.. guy kept in great shape you can tell it tell over a few times.. but that just some small scratchs on the plastics but other then that great bike. I have included a few pics. I do need to get some risers for it.. my kness are killing me when I ride after about 30 mins. I try to use it to commute but unless I get some risers for it and maybe raise the seat I am a tall guy 6 2 275 pounds and old.. 36. Its not the tourer i would like but i love the power and the way it handles the twisties.. as my freinds and I call them. Can any body help me with the specs like horse power at the wheels stoc torque, fluids specs and all? well I am looking forward to keeping this a long time.. Any help would be great...

Hello and welcome.
Since this is one of the most serious forums regarding a bike that I have ever seen IĀ“m sure you will find what you need if you surf around the threads.
I am 6.3976378 ft so I know what you mean but my problems are not the knees but the *** and right wrist.

Hi! Welcome to this forum, IĀ“m sure you will enjoy it! As Rhino94 stated this is the most serious forum regarding ANYTHING IĀ“ve ever seen. You and I started riding on similar bikes, I had a CBX 650 -83, I belive itĀ“s called NightHawk in the States(shaft driven, 16 valves, instruments with gear indicator...). I have a CBR 1000F of year -97 now, loving it more and more...

Hello m8 - and welcome to the forum!Nice and tidy CBR you've got yourself there!
Genmar bar risers should be what you are after to raise the bars,as for the rear i ain't too
sure....

I know you can get jack-up kits for some bikes,i dunno 'bout the CBR1000F which is a shame
as i'm looking into raising the rear end a tad.

Enjoy the bike and this forum, lots of knowlegeable people here that can help out!

Nice bike. Mine is a '91 1000F, and the first year of riding it (last year) gave me the same knee problems. Over the winter I began a regimine of stretches, abdominal strengthening exercises, occassional walking and some upper-body strengthing. This year I've been on a couple 500 mile days and several 100 to 350 mile rides with no knee problems other than mild discomfort. Stopping and walking ten minutes or so every hour and half or so will help. I'd tell you to let your leg hang down once in a while when traffic and road allow, but that wouldn't be safe. I do it anyway. By the way, sonny, at 36 you aren't old. I'm 62 and am not considered old yet. Late middle-aged maybe, but not old. Old is when you can no longer ride.

I don't have specs for your bike, but if you do a Google or Yahoo search for CBR1000F specs you'll probably find what you're looking for.

Welcome aboard!
Sweet bike! Congrats on the find.
I like your old guy at 36 comment... That's funny!
I'm 6'2" as well, and you'll get used to the seating position. I had an FJR which was more up right and more of a long tourer. But now that I'm used to the CBR, there is no reason why I can't put as many miles in a day as I did on the FJR. I've added a GIVI V46 top case, heated grips, loud **** horns, GPS mount and a voltmeter - clock - thermometer and she is my everyday rider\commuter. Really the only thing I miss over the FJR is the extra safety of the ABS brakes. I gotta say the FJR had stopping power in spades. But at $10k less... the CBR is a bargin!

dood - looks just like the one I just bought!

test ride in flip flops! (eek)

I'm 6'5" with a 36" inseam so I feel your pain in the leg department!

I bought some peg lowering thingy's designed for a Concours - a little work with a file to get them to fit and I got about and inch more room - unfortunantly it also moved them forward a bit - so I had to shorten the shift lever too. I'm not convinced it's the best solution - but it's an improvement...

I also ordered a Corbin seat - asked for 1" taller - it's 4-6 week wait for delivery for the custom shape - not cheap either...
