Default Needle enrichment 95 1kf

I wanted to go a little richer after installing a new 4 to 1 pipe on my 95. I came across a comment about 10 min job of shimming the needles. I was wondering if anyone has done this on my style carbs? Any tips or hard knocks we should know about?

I'd consult the Sprockmeister on this subject. He's done a lot of carb work on his bikes and used various exhaust set-ups as well.

Click this LINK. (no need to add your e-mail address) You will may need to pick Heavy Modification due to the 4-1 pipe, then click on SEE RESULTS lower left of the screen.

I have K&N filter and TB slip-on. I should have picked
Moderate Modification but went with Heavy because I wanted to make the adjustment for the ethanol in the gas. My plugs are spot on.

You will need to make an adjustment for Heavy Mod. I wouldn't go bigger than that.

Shimming the needles won't help you. Adding shims to a stock bike setup may only help to adjust for the ethanol and cold starting.

You won't get all the benefits form the 4-1 if you don't open the intake flow with a K&N filter. After that you will need to get more juice in the engine by opening up the jets.

You can fine tune the jets later buy stacking shims. The kit told me two shims but I went with only one. But then again, I went with Heavy Mod.

Have to agree to disagree with you on that score TBT

I did it on the 93 - easy as hell - tags the "lag" out of the midrange even without
rejetting but it'll still run a bit lean and that was when I had it going 4 : 1 can

When I ran two full flow cans it needed rejetting period

That said shimming & upsizing the jets is best to get the max out of it
