Default Need a new rear tire....

Need a new rear tire. What do you have and are you happy with it. Want a 180, but I will probably go with the popular suggestion. Ride mostly in the city commuting back and forth to work and occasional highway cruises.

Thanks.

I purchased a set of Pirelli Diablo's from CycleGear last year for my 94 1KF. I'm very satisfied with them. The 180's made it easier to lean into corners without making it top heavy. Yes, it wears the center a little more, but not significanly. I just purchased another set for my F3, but 160's. The F3 doesn't need any help going into corners. I'll put them on in a week or so.

Michelin Pilot Road 2's- excellent grip, wet or dry, and good mileage.
180 Rear is best, as Idodirt (hi Bill) says.
The Diablos won't give you the mileage, but have excellent adhesion, IMHO.

I'm running MPR2 rear at the moment. It is choosen due to expected longlivety and test-winning wet performances. The dry grip is also very good, and may not be possible to over-power by many drivers. I tested it on a track day and when I gave too much throttle out of turns the front becomes airborne, so the dry grip is there. The downside is that Michelin tends to be a bit more expensive than other brands, which are also good enough for all normal situations and more.

+1 on the 180 rear. I run that size and love the look and the grip. I'm partial to Metzeler tires and now have Roadtec Z6s on both ends of the bike. Good grip, very predictable and good mileage too!

Here's a short review on the Z6 tires:

I would agree with all this reveiw says, but have not yet experienced the issue he describes with the center tread section of the rear tire (not enough mileage on them yet).

I just got new tires and buddy at the Bike store recommended Bridgestone Battlax BT012R 170 for the rear. They may be old man touring tires I don't know. Been happy with them so far. Although I have no experience with other tires.

cheers,
TT

I've had 012's on mine - mileage wasn't good. Best Bridgestone was 020/021 - 13500 K's to the wear limiter at rear. Current Michelin RP2's have 9000 K's up and look good for another 9000 !!
