Sounds like a coil is breaking down .......................as has been said.
Check the "whoosh" from the tank to see if your breather is blocked.......

Actually it sounds like both coils are going. #1 and #2 fire on different coils. One coil fires #1 & #3. The other coil fires#2&#4. The difference between 1&3 (2&4) is polarity of the spark. I wonder if the revesed polarity ends are on #1& #2.

Thanks for the input guys! just finished diagnosing the problem, and it appears that both coils are toasted. Will call and order a pair tomorrow, is there any options available for "performance" coils? thanks again! so happy i finally found the problem

if im not mistaken and i dont think i am the coil firing order from the left coil is 1-4 and the right one is 2-3 so it does sound like you need only one coil switch the coils around and see if the problem switches

Sitting on the bike coil 1&4 is on your left and 2&3 is on the right. The coil wire colors are from left to right, Black/White Yellow/Blue for 1&4. The coil wire colors are from left to right, Black/White Blue/Yellow for 2&3. The plug wires from left to right are 1-4 for 1&4 and 2-3 for coil 2&3.
