Question Is My Sprocket FU(KED?

Hi there guy's , just wanted your opinions on the condition of the front sprocket .

Background is that it feels like its jumped a couple of times , not often but just every now and then . Couple of times under hard acceleration and once when slowing down pretty hard.

Here's the pics , see what you think:-

I can see wear in the leading edge of each tooth but not enough I would have thought to cause it to jump, how is your chain tension?? ... and maybe the chain itself is fairly worn ... if it was me because of the power you put through these items I would just fit new chain and sprockets together now :-)

Chain looks almost new to me , rear sprocket as well . If I pull the chain at the rear of the sprocket there is no movement at all (that is the test for chain wear yeah?) . Which is what led me to think maybe the previous owner had changed them but not the front sprocket . So maybe it's nothing to do with that at all ? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Maybe I'm too conservative with the chain tension , didn't want to screw the output shaft bearing , but maybe I should go tighter and see if it does it again.

Maybe a gearbox problem? Hope not , could get expensive

Maybe I should use a different word to maybe 'cos it maybe a little repetitious ?

A gearbox problem can also be lethal, if a gearbox seizes you can't just pull the clutch in like when an engine seizes
..your back wheel is locked, period.

Try to get to the bottom of this

Take care

Clean and oil your chain for a start............................they get stiff otherwise...........that can cause problems..................................

Yeah it's not too bad .........if you tension it up to 1/2 inch slack

But if you are putting on a new chain then change it as the pitch
has changed with the slight wear and it'd unduly stress a nice
new chain

That's what I figured PlayfulGod , I've come across a couple of things that made me form that opinion , like dark brown brake/clutch fluid , pads almost down to metal ect . I mean , if your gonna skimp on brakes , no way are you gonna change the front sprocket that no-one can even see !

But we live and learn , she's happy now she has all clean fluids and filters

I'm thinking I may change the front sprocket anyway , waddaya think?

The sprocket doesn’t look like there is a lot of wear on it but there is some. I have seen them where they are so pointed that they start to roll over. From the picture it looks like it is buggered up however. It would be nice to get a picture looking into the teeth more. From what I can see in those pictures is that the rear wheel may be way out of alignment. The reason I am making this statement is that it looks like the plates on the chain are climbing up on the sprocket teeth leaving wear marks the plate thickness where the rollers should be (the top tooth in the second and third picture).

If the chain climbs up on a tooth it would feel like it is jumping.

Are the spacers in correctly? Do you have the same amount on the rear wheel adjusters?
