Laser PRO d'Or Stainless System Query

My recently purchased 94 CBR1000F came with the above system, including downpipes, fitted but the seller knew nothing of the system except it was pretty. The bike came with no service history so I immediately changed oil & filter prior to going on a 190 mile bonding / shake down ride - no issues found. The oil was still like new so left that but when I removed the air filter the fuel tap side intake was taped off with gaffer / duck tape - strange I thought! Changed it for an OEM filter, changed plugs for Iridium, checked & altered tappets, balanced carbs. Now ready for a post service ride, upto 4000rpm pulled nice & strong but over that & it had a bad flat spot & misfire, would rev but slowly and minimal throttle opening.
Had a chat with local bike shop owner and he suggested trying it with the old partially blocked-off filter again. This I did - what a difference, no hesitation, no flat spots, no misfire pulling strongly upto the redline.
Anyone experienced this? I've emailed Laser today for their thoughts / suggestions. Should the bike have been upjetted but they've restricted air flow instead? I'm not looking for performance, long term I'm looking to return it to a 4 into 2 original silencers with stainless downpipes, just curious as to what / why?

Hi mate. I have an ft which is the 96 model and have also added a set of lasers.

I live by the idea of initially before anything running some good quality additive through the system but also I think your on the right track in as much as someone has done the negative in minimising air rather than the positive and maximising fuel.

The use of good quality additives also can work wonders and I use it consistently not only in our bikes but in our petrol car which is a V8 but also in our turbo diesel land cruisers.

The difference is amazing. We use a Pro-Ma DT5 for the diesels and the PT5 for the petrol engines irrespective of them being in our motorcycles or cars or boats etc we even run it in our ride on lawn mower.

You will need to re-jet. By blocking off one side its like running with a choke on.
You will need to pull the carbs. With them off turn the pilots out 2 1/2 turns as well.
Right now you are running with restricted intake. That defeats the open cans.
Get her open at both ends and feel the power.
