Default Jumping Tach between 4K and 5K

The Tach on my bike is fluctuating between 4K and 5K, but not before or after.
For example, if I hold it steady at 4500 rpm, the needle will go up to 4700 and down to 4300 constantly.
It will bounce and hunt, until I have reached 5K or if I drop to 3.9K.
I have re-tighten all electrical wires on the back of the gauge panel, but to no avail.
Does anyone knows a place to send the gauges to be re-calibrated or adjusted.
Is no big deal, but it is annoying to me.
Thanks

I don't know where you could get it repaired but, maybe someone on the forum has a used tach or complete gauge assembly for a reasonable price. If not there's always eBay. Since it's not a matter of the bike being not rideable, just be patient and hopefully a deal will come your way. BTW a new tach is $390.07. OUCH!!

Also check the connectors on the electric wires from the tach. Mine uses a green wire for the ground and a yellow wire with a green stripe for power. The green wire is a common ground, but the yellow/green has a connector near the front that should be pulled apart and cleaned. The spark unit sends RPM info to the tach and could be causing a problem, but since it's only at that specific RPM range, it is probably the tach.

Agree with Slowpoke. The first thing to look for in an electrical malfunction is a bad ground. Then loose connections elsewhere. Then look for bare wires shorting out. Once those things are checked out you can go look for expensive things like new tachs.

Thanks to all of you.
This bike has only 8K miles and I have it since new 1988.
I think is the tach, for I have checked out for loose wires and tighten them just in case.
I will live with it, unless I find a cheap gauge panel on Ebay.
