Shocking as it may be, Honda does say 8k (miles) for oil change. I would never let it go that far. I do mine at 3k miles with good motorcycle oil.

Dad, I agree with you through experience. I had a bike that was a little tight on valve lash and cooked it. I was about 600 miles from home and had to ride it on three cylinders. When I pulled her apart the exhaust valve on number two was ½ the original diameter. Loose is far better than tight.
PlayfulGod, what is IMO? I searched it and found; Idiopathic Massive Osteolysis (Gorham's Disease). I didn’t know that these bikes could get it. WOW! I better check my frame.

Whats the time labour for a valve adjustment normally. If I take it to the shop, how much am I looking at?

Gill, the thing is, if any of the valve lashes need adjusting, it would be wise to balance the carbs also.
You need a trusted shop to be able to tell you that nothing needed adjusting and they don't need to hit you up with that charge as well.

Both jobs are easy. You should learn how to do them.

TBT, has anyone done a "how to" on carb balance and valve lash adjustment with pictures on the Forum....?
That would save us all a good amount of cash ( which we could then spend on reg/recs and cam chains)he he[:@]
Agree, 8000 miles for oil change is way too long - Honda have it wrong .....

I was quoted $140 including a carby balance and checkover, but no oil change, alos included that I remove the fairing before taking it there. (save an extra $30 in labour)

My local Honda shop here quoted me 200.00 for the valve adjustment. @70.00 bucks per/hour. Not sure about the carbs sync though. Someone mentioned a special tool for adjusting carbs and valve lash. How does one obtain these tools?
