idled up slightly. Choke cable?
i noticed today on my ride in to work my bike started idling up by about 500 rpm. Havent had a chance to look, but could the choke cable be sticking a little? I have never had to adjust the idle on this bike in over a year, so something else is likely to be the culprit I think. Are the choke cables known to stick over time? Thoughts?

Does it hold steady at 500rpm above normal , have you tried pushing/twisting the throttle back down(just to eliminate sticking throttle)? Otherwise I would suspect the choke and take a look at that:icon_shrug:
Just a thought , have you done any work on the bike recently? |
I haven't had any sticking cable problems, but it sounds like a logical place to start.

If you've had the tank up you may have caught the cable underneath - has happened to me.....................
Otherwise just spray some Q20 on the cable mechanisms etc. Could also be a stuck butterfly - it happens in the best of families Ronnie :) |
Thanks guys!
I tried playing with the throttle and moving the choke cable back and forth. When I first take it off choke in the mornings it goes to 1100, where I have it set. But as I ride and the motor gets warmer, it idles up to about 1500 which is a little too high for me. Until I pull the tank up and look, I went ahead and idled it down a little. Gonna have to break down and do the valve adjustment one day and Im really intimidated to tackle that task. Maybe I can lift the tank after work today and take a look. I have had this bike about a year and 4 months and it sure has been a trouble free ride!!..... with the exception of the nightmare working on the linked brakes, |
Gonna have to break down and do the valve adjustment one day and Im really intimidated to tackle that task. Easy job, really. Just don't over-torque the valve cover bolts or they will break..... Although a fairing bolt and rubber washer will work as a quick replacement. (I really need to replace that bolt.. ;)) |
