Default Idle Mixture on a 1996

Where the heck is the idle mixtuer adjustment on a 1996? I can't seem to find either a screw or a cap covering a screw.
I've got a bit of a low end stumble and thought I would fatten up the mixture a bit before I tried shimming the needle.
Thanks.

Capt.
. Its aD shaped recessed access screw on the very bottom. Use a mirror and look under the bowls just aft. Its in a shaft and u need a special Honda tool for adjustment.
If I can find any pics, Ill post

Well no wonder I couldn't find them... I didn't think to stand on my head and look up.
Special tool? Is there a way to modify something to make it work? Like a offset screwdriver or something?

Nope. Honda/Keihan (sp)? did not do us a favor when they built these carbs. Think recessed bolt. You need a socket to get at the bolt, right? Well, the "bolt" is an actual "D" shaped head brassscrew. Honda and Mac tools have the bit that fits onto the idle mixture screw. Still haven't got the camera working. I've got to get it working and Ill post some pics to help you.

Although the bowl is off on this photo, the idle mixture screw is visible at the lower center. There is a faint red arrow pointing it out. As you can see it has a flat spot on it at about the 8 O'clock position.

I dunno if things are different here in Australia or if the previous owner modified stuff, but my mixture screws are just a phillips head!

Okay I see that. I'll check with Mac tools and possible the Honda dealer to see if I can come up with one of these tools.
The problem I'm having is low speed hesitation. Off idle up to about 2500 RPM. It seems like a classic lean condition. I was thinking of shimming the needles but since it's only off idle, I thought I'd try fattening up the mixture a bit and seeing if that helps.
Thoughts?

The carbs that came with my bike have the cross hatch, like a phillips head. My bike came from some where in Europe. The set of used carbs I bought off of ebay (from the US) came with the D shaped screws. I also noticed the needles from the US model are longer, about 1.5 mm. The springs that goon top ofthe needles are longer as well. Trying to make one working set out of these two units is making me crazy. I have the bike running, but it's running like crap.

By any chance does any one know where I can get a brand new set of carbs (euro version)? I'd really appreciate the help.

Hi Capt. My '94 had the stumble up to 2500RPM when I got it. A cleaning of the pilot / slow jets fixed it. All stock engine/bike. .02!
