Im getting ready to order tires in the am. I got a few questions.

The bike specs say rear is a 170/60-17. The bike right now has a 190/50-17 on it. I read a 1000 post on the subject. Would a 180/55-17 be a good tire size. I dont care if their soft or med. I dont want a hard tire. Just something that will last until the end of the season.

Here is the choice of tires

Full Bore USA M-3 Track Sport Radial Tire Set
120/70ZR-17 & 190/50ZR-17 (157.00 shipped)

MICHELIN PILOT POWER 2CT 180/55/17 (139.00 shipped for the just rear)

Michelin Power Race Rear Tire 180 55 17 (109.00 shipped)

Shinko 180/55ZR17 Advance 005 (122.00 shipped)Which I hear are not a very good tire.
Thanks everyone. EZ

My opinion for what it's worth

Go with a Brand like Bridgestone , Michelin , Metzler, Pirelli, Conti , Avon etc.

180 is your best bet , out front stay with same exact profile period.

A few of us have gone with Michelins and Battleaxes lately some people
like Avons and Pirellis too. Matter of personal choice for the type of riding
you expect to be doing.

Shinko....... not a great idea

Shinko rhimes with Stinko. Tires change so much so otften. Michelin were known for having great grip but letting go abruptly. Dunlops gave plenty of warning, sliding predicably. Perrelli's were in between. The last I heard from the racers up at Loudon NH Bridgestones were the hot set up. But even this info may be out of date already.

Most folks go with the 180/55 on the rear , gives a good tyre choice . Lots here like the Bridgestone BT020/021 or Michelin PR2 .

190 seems a bit big on the rear and can affect turn-in . The 170 is probably the best choice for handling , but looks a little skinny.

Cheaper tyres are tempting and may be just as good , but in the words of Dirty Harry , 'Do you feel lucky Punk?'

I liked the road attacks on my 1000f - decent milage, reassuring feel and comfy ride.
Ran the 120 / 180 set on mine and loved the handling - drop the forks through the yokes 5mm to return the turn in to normal.
Unfortunately my blackbird eats them for breakfast, lunch and dinner so they arn't going to last long.

1. 180 is perfectly great.
2. Do _not_ buy race or track tires. It's 100% a waste of money. You will get nothing out of it in any way. Get a good S/T tire like a Bridgestone 021 or a Michelin Pilot Road 2, or one of the others...they're all great. They stick like hell, and they last. And, they are by no means "hard."
