got back out to the hurricane today with all intention of giving her a service, but first i thought i would check out some connector block wiring on the fan, im glad i did, i ran her up and no fan comes on, so i unplugged the connector by the fuse box and took all the wiring back down to the fan motor, got me meter out and started to check it all out.
OHHH MY WORD what a mess, all back to front and upside down, put it all back together ran her up, NOTHING. so i took it all off again, let her cool down and took the rad off so i could get to the motor (i am going to change the coolant anyway). luckily i have another rad as the bottom mount was siezed and twisted round (should have got the molegrips on it first) doh!
put it across a battery (still nowt). so i took the fan off the rad and opened the motor up and low and behold found the problem one of the brushes was dangling on its spring, so i can only assume someone has been in here before, theres loads of brush left and the springs ok.
put it all back together and put it across the battery and she works. im going to try to get the rad back on tommorow.

Sounds great Wheelnut. Can't wait to see her finished now. And glad you're going to hang onto her. An absolute credit to you determination and skill.

Cheers, SB

cheers for that s.b, i am on the home run now, just a service and put her bodywork back on (should be ready early next week), then she is going out for a long ride

spent saturday night tarting up the rad, i did try to take the grill off but the screws were solid and i tried this on the old rad and they twisted the mounts,so i left it on to paint,

back on the bike

then i thought i would flush the cooling system through before putting new antifreeze in, but when i came to run her up she wouldnt start, then kept blowing a fuse.
after a bit of head scratching i disconnected the fan, still nowt, had to charge the battery up, then had another go, still nowt and another blown fuse, so connected everthing back up, i have no tank on her so i use a funnel, took the fuel pump line off NO FUEL getting to the carbs, so i bypassed the pump and away she went.
when i connected the pump back up she blows the fuse, so it must be the pump contacts, i may just run with no pump.

if nothing else this bike rebuilding gives the grey matter a work out.

The general consensus is to gravity feed. Less complicated and more reliable in the long run.

You've probably read all the threads on the subject already, but the Sprockmeister reckons the best route for the new fuel line is back and behind the tank, like the MK2. I'd add an extra fuel filter in there too, just for good measure, easier to change than the in-tank one.

Keep up the good work, the rad looks great!

well i have had the week off work and managed to get back out to the hurricane at every moment i can.
so shes had a service, plugs, oil, filters and fluids, balanced the carbs (they wernt to bad) but all 4 plugs were undone by hand and the plug holes were full of rubbish.
