How cold/hot is it where you are?

Interested about the open class. We up here don’t know about that one.
Europe have a Compulsory Bike Test, which is the basic of all tests for newbies on mopeds, once you have that, if after two years you haven’t passed the Module 1 within that period then it’s take the CBT again.
If however you have passed the Mod 1 test and are under 19 yrs old you can then ride up to a125 cc( but it’s actually hip they go on), then once 19 you can do a mod 2. After 2 years of that when you reach 21 you can take the same test as 1 and 2 , and then ride a limitless hp bike. There are variations to that, but that is pretty much what has to be done.
Gone are the days of riding round the estate and be given the license there and then.
Now it’s as many as 7 tests to reach the ultimate.
When I was inOZ all those years ago I had an international drivers license that let’s just say was easy to get round the catagories!

Well we have two classes one is what we call lams (re class)what ever that stands for I have know idea, that allows us to ride up to a 660 cc provideded it with in the power to weight ratio eg an aprillia rs250 is not on the lams list. After you have had your lams for 12 months you can then go for you open class (r) https://www.transport.wa.gov.au/medi...pproved_MC.pdf this is a list of lams approved bikes aka step one lol

This has turned into a licencing around the world thread.
Here in California, you take a very short written test and you have a permit that says you can ride anything 1 up, during the daytime, and not on the freeway/expressway. To get those 3 restrictions lifted you can take the MSF class or show some DMV clerk that you can shift twice and ride a circle (some DMVs have a couple of cones to ride around instead). That's it. You are all set to ride a 200mph wheelie on your Busa!!!

I think the UK doesn’t want people to ride motorbikes. For instance, my Son at 17, is the only one in nearly 1000 students with a non Learner plated bike....so any one in the motorcycle business ought to think about the long term prospects because us oldens are the few left buying bikes....then what?

We take a motorcycle test where you have to perform a variety of maneuvers around an autocross-style course of road cones, and if you pass, you can ride anything you like. Those with the good sense to take a riding course get cheaper insurance, but other than that, it's the law of the jungle
There's talk of moving to a graduated license but it's not real popular with suburban harley riders - the type who would never deign to learn on anything less than 110ci's

Well it's been a fabulous 30C to 24C over the four days of the Adelaide 500 Supercars race days.
Managed to snag a photo with this legend on Thursday - Toby Price - an incredibly nice guy as well as top Enduro, Stadium Truck and Superute driver. Winner of the 2016 Dakar with the Red Bull Factory KTM Rally Team, and won the Finke Desert Race the same year - for a record equalling 5th time. Yeah, the boy can ride - and drive!

Cheers, SB
