Hey there, new CBR1000f owner..

Hey guys and gals.

Im a newbie here, this being my first post. I just brought a CBR1000f, its been in a highside but has come out unhurt. I brought it for what I think is a cheap price. It needs alittle work but not alot. Could do with a tidy up...so my plan is to make her look new again.

A few questions if you dont mind;

My bike has done 80,000miles, not sure if its had a rebuild in that time or not. Has had a new cam chain but not sure about the cam chain tensoner. I'm real real worried about how long it will last. I will give it the mother of all services one its in my hands but I really dont want her to die.

Any help on what to look for would be awesome...also Im on the hunt for pictures, bikepics.com has quite a few but are there any photos of restored or real minters out there....for modervation!

Cheers for ya time and help in advance!

Also just a quick question to get things right. The dash reads 180miles per hour but has 260 or 280km/h in much smaller font next to the Miles messurement...so does that mean the ODO meter is reading miles or kms?

Welcome to this awesome forum!
I would be very surprised if the ones that changed the cam chain didn´t change the tensioner at the same time! The tensioner is mostly due for replaceing before the chain.
If the speedo reads miles in the biggest font, then your odometer is reading miles.

Post a pic of your new bike! What year is it BTW?

I dont have any pics as of yet. The year is 1989. Would you be worried about the amount of Miles it has done?

80miles is about 129km, I have about 115km on mine and it's goes OK, It will all depend on how well it was looked after and ridden.
I’m under the impression that these bikes struggle to make it to 200Km, which is better than most other models, anyone wish to comment on this?

Kneescraper,

First, welcome to the forum. If your speedometer indicates in mile, your odo also should be mile. I am in US and have 1987 model. It also has speedometer with mile. CBR1000F's motor seems very strong, but if you've got 80000 miles, that is pretty high mileage. Just look through the forum. You'll find many useful tips though![/align]
