Are you turning the key far enough.
I change the back hand rail, and the seat lock is not as good as it was.
I might give it a bit of a DW40 spray, now you brought this up.

Do a search. Someone else had the same problem recently. Try pushing down on the rear of the seat while turning the key.

When I got my '88, there was no key for the lock, I had to pull the cusion forward, and gently pry the mechanism back with a 8" screw driver. It damages nothing and removes the seat. Perhaps you could do this in the interum. If you need a pic, I'll try, but its off to work for the next 12 hours now.

With the key in the helmet lock turn it CCW with some mild force (be careful not to bend it) and with the left hand come down sharply on the rear of the seat. The locking catch should release and the key should turn further CCW. To remove the seat, the bake is lifted as the entire seat travels slightly rearward.
