Help! Dad's 1000f stopped charging
My dad's got a 93 CBR1000F with 30k on the clock that has run great until yesterday. It wouldn't start so we charged it for a while and got it started......
With the engine running we checked battery voltage.....it kept going down and down. So the battery is supporting the engine????
He tried to ride it and it died pretty quick. What should I check? Is this a common problem? Thanks.

RE: Help! Dad's 1000f stopped charging
I've been reading a little and want to test the regulator/rectifier. I searched but didn't come up with a test procedure. Any help is appreciated.

Your Reg/rec could be dead - check the level of water in your battery before going any further, and I think you'll find the thing's probably dry. If so, and you checked it recently, then your regulator is allowing too much current to the battery, and has boiled it dry. Replace the regulator, and the battery's probably shot too after all the excessive loading. See also MANY posts on this issue, and yes, it's a common problem, ESPECIALLY FOR ME[:@][:@]

Voltage on your battery with a running engine should be somewhere near 15 volts. Engine off should be around 12. If this isn't the case, your rectifier probably is fried. Pretty common with Honda's
It could also be the alternator. 3 wires should come from the rectifier, and they should measure about 55+ volts AC, or i think 80 in beteen two of these wires. After rebuilding my little sisters GS500 it started failing after a while, after some inspection i discovered she made a mistake while rebuiliding it; the chain was eating away the 3 cables that came from the alternator!
good luck
