Headlight Switch
 

My 94 has Japanese stickers on it and the headlight is on all the time. There is no side light in the headlight unit and a previous owner has put a headlight cut out switch where the normal light switch would be. My question is if I obtain a UK right hand switch assembly will it just plug and play? I appreciate that I don't have a side light in the headlight unit but that is easily remedied. Thanks in anticipation

The headlight should be on all the time. There shouldn't be a headlight switch just a hi/low beam switch.

There are no side lights either. The front directionals are the side markers.

I swapped out a Euro right hand light switch cluster I got from a spare parts firm in the Netherlands. $50. Swapped in perfect. You will have to return the left switch cluster to stock operation as a hi/low switch. Mine, other that the new slider switch under my left thumb, looks totally stock and now allows me to turn off my headlight when I'm stuck in heavy traffic for more than 20 min.

The stock Reg/Rect doesn't charge the battery at idle speed with the cooling fan turning. After two times stalled on the roadside with dead battery, I needed a way to reduce the voltage load during max fan operation. In Dallas, it's not unusual to be stuck in barely-moving traffic in the summer for 30~45 min during a commute. It's not legal officially by DOT law, but I doubt I'd ever get hassled for it. I turn the headlight back on as soon as I get moving. YMMV.

Is it a common job to swap the Reg/Rec for a MOSfet unit for better reliability & performance, like on my Africa Twin?

Unfortunately, the CBR1000F engines use a reg/rect that powers an electromagnet in the stator cover (it's really an alternator). Since most Mosfet regs are for permanent magnet stator motors, they lack the third engergizer circuit needed for the stator to charge. You can find replacement reg/rect units from any later-model CB750 on eBay *(I have two OEM $20 spares, lol) but other than ElectroSport or UK Electrex aftermarket units, nothing else works or will swap in. I believe the laws are written (you'll have to check where you live) that you need a visible white light from 200 ft away. Adding a small LED will do that.
I have the ElectroSport SC24 its plug an dplay, works excellent.
