Getting a little too old for a sporty ride these days, looking for a more comfortable riding position, whats on offer out there?

Thanks for the info, a nice factory looking conversion is the ideal, the VFR bars could be the one.
I have seen some adjustable bars up to 3" but a little pricey? its difficult to tell until you go ahead and buy them?

I've buggered around with 3D adjustable clip ons, but found the screen clearance was the biggest issue .
I'm in the process of converting to a motocross style bar with clip on adaptors off eBay.
I think I'll end up having to trim the fairing / screen to some degree .
Now I'm sure this will end up looking like crap, but I can't ride the damn bike more than 100kms as it is .
My upper fairing is in pretty poor condition from a drop by the previous owner , so I'm not particularly worried about cutting it up .
This will be a project for the winter period. I'll take some pictures as I go .
Many will say just buy something more suitable, but this old girl is worth bugger all on the Australian market and quite frankly I just enjoy the speed /handling and relative comfort and control of the old CBR .
It's worth trying to get it right for me .

Thanks for your input, seems to be a common issue, not sure it its a design flaw or old age???? a few optoins out there, I'll look forward to the photos.

I always found my 1000F comfortable in standard trim, right up to when I sold it at age 57.

Bendy bendy stretchy is the secret, an alternative to bar risers would be Yoga :icon_wink:

Now I've got the Fireblade, I always do some stretches before riding, the difference is like night and day.

I had some serious cramps when I first got it and was worried I'd made a mistake buying it. But I do Yoga type stretches every day now, with a quick limber-up before putting my leathers on.

You may be right , when I first got it I had a little discomfort, but by a month or so into the riding season I'd gotten used to it . But I'm a regular gym user and in reasonably good shape and still having problems.
It's my second bike now , I just can't seem to ride far without pain. I bought an old BMW R1100RT. Its ride position allows me to ride literally all day. But of course it just doesn't boogie like the CBR.

Well I suppose the CBR was the bike that coined the phrase 'Super Sport', so in it's day it was considered to be a sports bike, rather than a touring bike. By today's standards the riding position isn't so extreme, so it's now considered to be a sports tourer, I think it's a great all-rounder. Adapt that riding position with higher bars and maybe lowered pegs and it can become the No1 bike again :)

As you said the value of these bikes doesn't make it worth selling, so you've got nothing to loose if you modify the fairing.

Maybe you could take some measurements from the Beemer to make sure you get things in the right position.

Yeah , somewhere in between the two positions would be ideal . I still want to be able to ride it in a sporting manner . Yet be comfortable enough to sit on our stupid and over policed 100km/h limit .
Plus I still haven't gotten around to doing a track day or two.
This bike is still has far more horse power then I have talent .

This discussion rattled the marbles in my head and I remembered some website from the dim, dark past.

Motorcycle Ergonomics

You can get the ergonomics of the CBR1000F and compare it to many other bikes. Best to set it for your own height etc.
