Default Grrr Another Sprocket Question!

Guys

Just been reading the many posts (and differing opinions) re sprocket sizes. According to previous posts, my 1999 UK bike should be wearing a 44t rear sprocket. However it seems the guy I bought the bike off fitted a 41t rear sprocket.

Am I right in thinking that this will make the bike slower off the line?

Thanks in advance
The one they call Flogger

Stock is 17/42 for all except 1987/1988 models..
Smaller rear gives less off the line acceleration but higher (theoretical) top speed.
He might also have changed the front sprocket.

Hmm, where does the 17/42 come from? A UK site says 17/41 is stock on post 96 models in the UK at least. (not wishing to doubt what you say Mr Honda Hurricane).

I use to look at JT sprocket's web page...don't know if they're the right original sizes (according to Honda)that are drawn in "fat" (more blackened style) in the catalogueunder respective model but i think it is....check for your self.

Gearingcommande.com - Motorcycle Gearing Ratio Sprocket RPM Speed Chain Calculator might be useful. Too bad no one has entered data for any other CBR1000's than 87-88, yet.

OK. My specs is the swedish, or perhaps I am just wrong...
Anyway. If you are going to change, use 17/44 for a funnier riding.

Will my chain be okay moving from a 41t rear to a 44t one? Cheers

Measure the diameter of your present sprocket, and the new 44T one - there'll be quite a difference, which may mean a new chain......
If the diameter of your present cog is, say 6", the circumference will be about 18.86 inches
If it goes out to, say 6.5 inches the new circumference will be about 20.42.
So you'll need an extra two inches - (don't we all) !!
Don't take these as gospel, get someone who actually knows what he's talking about to work the thing out again..........

Is there anyway that I can re-gear the speedometer so it will show the correct speed with another gearing than stock?
