Gear Calculator...

I was not sure whether to tack this on to the end of another post - if an admin feels that's best, go ahead :-)

I found this really cool gear calculator application. The zip file contains two files, the calculator itself and a VB RunTime DLL. The DLL must be where-ever the calculator application lives. In other words both files should be in the same place.

To save a profile, you need to Register at http://www.ironjungle.com on a frapper map. I've done this but got no registration details yet. Without registration you need to load the ratio stuff each time you open the program.

Anyway, the calculator is (in my opinion) very cool. I especially like the recommended way to work out the rear wheel circumference - put a dab of grease on the rear wheel and move the bike down the road a bit - then measure between grease marks. That's the circumference :-)

You can see in a snap the effect of going up/down teeth on front/rear sprocket and even get graphical representations!

For your comfort and convenience i've listed below the CBR1000F stuff from the factory manual:

Primary reduction 1.785
Final reduction 2.47 (based on 42/17 rear/front sprocket)
Gear ratio 1st 2.75
Gear ratio 2nd 2.066
Gear ratio 3rd 1.647
Gear ratio 4th 1.368
Gear ratio 5th 1.173
Gear ratio 6th 1.045

Here is the link to the zip file....

I personally would be a little hesitant on putting grease on my tires. I think that chalk might accomplish the same thing. I'll check out the calculator, it sounds interesting.
