Fuel level sender unit

Have you checked the part numbers Mark?
I presume from your post that the '93 unit is more accurate? It might not be the sender unit, it might also be due to the shape of the bottom of the tank, cos mine behaves in exactly the same way, so like Bicklebok, I pay more attention to the trip meter.

The best way to tell is by getting a good look at both parts, which is sometimes hard to do unless you happen to own both years. hehe...

You can of course bend the arm with the float on it to give you a more accurate reading,
but like a cuddling a good woman, be gentle with her.....................
I have a full set of gauges if you think it's just the gauge up top that's crook. I can send it out in a flash and save you some cash................from a 93 BTW
ALSO The tank runs off a rheostat, same kind of thing you find in the hand controller of a slot car - a flat board with windings connected at both ends to the float - if you fit a winding which is longer, the tank will be more accurate.
Oh and my 90's gauge had the problem so I bent the arm a bit..................didn't help much, tho'
They are all like that, I think, at least the earlier ones................
I like the trip gauge and the reserve switch. Never leave home without either one
