Default Front wheel removal on cbr1000f

I removed the front wheel on my 94 CBR1000F because I needed a front tire and I wanted to save a few bucks. Wheel came off fine, took it to the dealer and had the tire mounted. Brought the wheel home, installed it back on the bike. When I tighten the axle nut, everything binds up, and I cannot turn the front wheel. Do I tighten the axle pinch bolts first, then the axle nut? If everything is loose, the wheel turns. If I tighten the axle pinch bolts, everything's fine. Tighten the axle bolt...binding, the wheel barely turns.

What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to the forum Deucea, the first thing you should do is download the workshop manual from the appropriate section for your bike, it may come in very handy in the future, as for your specific problem, I don't know, but I am sure someone who does will reply shortly, if not you can always check the manual.

Hey:

This for 89+ bikes

Is the axle into the forks all the way to the stop line on the round side w hole, if not it will bend the forks enough to bind it up. And yes
it must be at the line, coat the axle with hi temp anti seize compound, install /w all the spacers in the correct sides, larger dia. one on the right side, looking at it from the seat. Then anti seize coat and install/tighten all 4 of the pinch bolts, 1st on left side, then the right side, torque to specs, put the cap bolt into the right side axle and snug it tight, wheel should spin freely. Put the calipers back on, check disc clearence, maybe put on some lock tite on if needed, tighten everything and torque to specs, Lower front wheel, test it out and recheck it all, hope this helps

Dub,
Thanks for your help. I didn't notice any spacers on the front when I took off the wheel. I even checked the service manual, and there are no spacers listed. The only spacers I saw were in the wheel, and they were about an inch long on both sides. Are you talking about something thinner?

Flip those same spacers around one side to the other and vice versa and see what happens

or the tire was mounted backwards and the rim is now opposite direction to what it was originally !

Which way is the tread facing on the tire now ?

Post up a pic

Hey:

Look Here item #4 and #5 wheel spacers,

Honda Kawasaki Polaris Suzuki Yamaha Motorcycles ATVS Scooters Utility Vehicles

Good one Sprock, sounds like a shop has done you a favor in the past, LOL. Howd that one turn out.

As mentioned by Sprock, check the tire, or take a picture of the front wheel if you can, nothing fancy a mobile will do, maybe that will help.

Also if they did not remove the rotors the arrow heads in the rotors point downward as in the diagram above.

I do my own tires myself, it's a very simple thing to do

So you could say I have a fair idea of whats up with this particular issue

So we've got checking the spacers (smaller one on brake lever side). Also make sure the bolts for the brake caliper on the brake lever side are correct. The longer bolt goes in the top hole, shorter bolt in lower hole. If you reverse them, the bolt will drag on the brake rotor. And if you've got the spacers flipped, that would definitely lock up everything
