Default Front Suspension Concerns

This is an easy one for all execpt for me,

Do the forks sit flush with the top of the clamp or do they protrude past the top.

At the moment i have them sitting about 1cm past the top of the clamp am i correct?

thanks

Don't you have to have them high enough for the handle bars to fit on?

But now that we are talking about it, I'm guessing lowering the front end just that much would have any effect on the handling, but if you did it more, what would be happing to the handling if it would ever get noticable.

i.e. might it reduce the low speed tipsies by lowering the center of gravity? Other than that rake and trail would stay the same, huh?

Mine are flush but I suppose you can do what you like within reason .

When I refitted my forks I slid them into position , refitted the big circlip type thingy and then pulled the forks back down so I know that both the forks are exactly the same length.

There is a retaining ring that fits into a grove that is cut just below the tube cap. You can loosen the triple clamps and let the tubes drop until the retaining ring contacts the clip-on. That is how mine are adjusted.

You can see the retaining ring in the photo supplied by Shadow. If you look at the left fork tube on the left you can see it at 4-0'clock just above the clip-on. It is hard to see because it is small in diameter.
