Front Sprocket Guide Ring Question

Front Sprocket Guide Ring Question
Hi All
quick question ......I 've just done a chain and sprocket job
Went with 16 teeth on front 44 on rear with DID VM X-Ring
It seems the Chain Guide Ring (Big O-Ring) between the
Front Sprocket and the Chain Guide Outer Plate might be
getting squished due to the smaller front sprocket diameter.
Should I just leave it out ? Or what ?
Anyone have any experience of this ?
I will tell you the 16/44 ratio is fun to ride with but pushed
the new chain length to 116 links
Any feedback gratefully appreciated.

Thanks Hawk'
Yeah hopefully someone has done it and can give pointers whether
to leave it there or take it out. I'm leaning towards just taking that
big o-ring out and just use the outer cover by itself.
Thinking of getting an 18 tooth front for highway excursions which
with the new 44 rear will give me a 2.44 ratio almost the same as
the stock ratio of 2.47 with the 17/42......or close enough.
With the 16/44 the speedo is way off !!!!!!!!!!!!
Always good to have options

I have never run a smaller front , so om not too sure ...
It should clear , just....as most of these options are made for bike with knowledge of the potential issue take into account..??
..... have you looked to see to make for sure ?
a pic would be great

yeah I plan on opening her up again tomorrow
Tell tale sign is a slight black residue on the left
side of my nice new gold chain ! So I'm betting
that's what's doing it.
Will take a photo even hold up the 17 tooth so
we can see the size difference.
That Damper Ring is coming out,... Left side of the
chain seems to be riding up on it ever so slightly.
Chew it up in a short time I'd say

sure 'snuff that damper wuz gittin' trashed
Steve , Hawk and anyone else interested in putting on a smaller sprocket ......FYI
So you'll see the damper ring was getting trashed .......just too big for the smaller
sprocket.............so just took it out.
You can see the outside chain plates were getting the gold rubbed off too.
Ya'll said you wanted to see it ............here ya are hope I dont bugger this
upload up.

a few other pics
5 pic limit kinda messin' wid my noggin. !
Y'll see # 10 shows what a 2 mile run with the smaller 16 tooth
sprocket did to the damper ring.
It's all good now though no problems running without the damper ring
and keeping just the chain guide ring.
Had to tighten up the chain a few turns more to get the 1 inch +
tension

I believe the black plastic piece assembly is for noise dampening only. I also read it was in some motorcycle mag and that leaving it off caused no functional problem.
I left this same assembly off of a CBR600 I once had with no problems ,except for the additional noise , which was pronounced but not bothersome. It kinda gave the bike a pleasant MECHANICAL sound. If I remember correctly it only made noise when the chain was not loaded, ie. decelerating.
FWIW Just my 2 cents.
