Default fluid dilemna

New Spiegler clutch line.

Master cylinder says use DOT4. Line says Type F.

Which one do I use?

Type F? In a hydraulic clutch?

I'd stick with dot 4.
What's in it now?

Nothing, at the moment. System drained. Slave and master cylinder rebuilt.

Now the line doesn't say, "Use type F". It only says Type F

That may refer to the type of construction of the line.

I can't imagine using anything other than dot 4, or dot 5.1, in it for fluid.

Go with the DOT 4.
'Type F' is racing ATF.

Ok, Thanks for the replies.

DOT 4 may have been state of the art in 1987. Should I upgrade to a more modern fluid.

One last note. The new slave piston seal would not, by any efforts, fit in the bore. Still using the old piston seal. Will it make difference what fluid choice I make?

Dot 4 will be fine. You could get some higher temp racing dot 4 if you want to, but its probably not going to make a difference other than piece of mind.

As long as that old seal doesn't leak, run it....

Got it, Demon thanks.

Thanks, TBT for your input as well.

Much needed.

I don't see any gain from switching to any type of super-duper wiz-bang fluid. You're only using the fluid to disengage the clutch. Your not gonna take seconds off in the 1/4 mile.

The newer brake fluids hold up to the heat better. You'd have to be shifting in a blurry frenzy to generate the slightest amount of heat, if any at all.

I only use my clutch at stops

Is it only me or is there really a video about juicing on your post?
