Flintstones bike!

Who needs a motor when you've got your own two legs?

Great job! I love it.

Cheers, SB

We have had discussions on bike benches but no one has ever mentioned using a sky hook.

Wish I'd have seen this post before I did my motor swop. Good work, mind if I use your technique next time :icon_biggrin:

This was not as easy as I expected. The gears and chains are somewhat daunting.

There always comes a point when you wonder why you ever started.

hillbilly86 08-26-2013 09:54 PM

Gotta put gears in mine at some point so I'll be feeling the same way sooner or later, definitely not looking forward to it.

While I remember, do you happen to know if the gears from an '88 will work in a '96? Can't find anything on it but on all the specs I've looked up the top speed has been rated the exact same so I would think that they have the same gearing.

I could be way off, but I'll never know till I ask or try and asking is a little cheaper

thatguywill 08-27-2013 10:55 AM

That'll have to be answered by somebody smarter than I, this is the first time I've eve been in a bike motor. Or a transmission of any type.

So, just for giggles I popped by the local Honda bike dealer. Hoping they may have a line on NOS fairings or something.

Nope! It's either repair what I've got or try and find used ones that are in better shape than what I've got. This could get interesting.

thedrewski86 09-07-2013 07:26 PM

Bummer as these plastics are worth their weight in gold! I would attempt to repair, probably your cheapest route. If not other years may fit, I know my '90 has plastics from a '93 or '94. Looks pretty good too.

thatguywill 09-08-2013 05:41 PM

That's probably what I'm going to end up having to do, if I can't find NOS or decent used ones. There are a lot of broken pieces though, some of side fairing pieces were held on with velcro straps. One of the side fairings looks like it had undergone some work already.

If anything, I'll make my own body panels :D Honda Hurricane | Bike EXIF

Well, the crank and cams passed magnaflux, so at least there's that.

They actually failed one of the cams, but it's a forging overlap, which is perfectly normal, so it's fine.

Good stuff things are looking up. Nice pic dump btw - some excellent reference point
materials for tearing down.

If your still looking for fairings, I have a set for the sides top and bottom and both sides. They were repsrayed and not entirely dissimilar from what you have. The paint can be found on ebay and that is a metallic pearl caburys. It has a lot of laquer on it so you can sand down to your perfect finish.

However they had been damaged previously but not by myself and yes I have carried out some repairs to either reinforce what is their or to replace what was missing. Needless to say, they were not on my bike at the time of my crash hence just sitting around in the shed doing squat.

I did however add a lovely GOLD lady on a chair poseing semi nude with a hat. Also found on ebay.

To be fair, they are in the best shape even for ebay for such an old bike. I think you would be pleasantly happy with what I have. The only gripe I have is the left leg cover next to your knee cap. The piece I just awful and I think this had been heated in the past by another painter to speed up drying and deformed it. This part in sure you have a rep for IE your own one from your bike.

let me know if you still looking for a decent 2nd hand parts for fairings I have all parts except for front fairing Headlight section and the rear cowling around the pillion seat area. Those were on the bike and was destroyed in my accident. sorry....

thatguywill 10-07-2013 07:31 PM

I may take you up on that, I just don't know when yet. I haven't gotten much done with the motor because, quite frankly, I'm lazy.

The front fairings seem to have survived life OK, but the side fairings are hurting a little bit.

In any case, got some work done to the head. The head itself looks to be in pretty good condition. Seats are OK, they should come in concentric. The valves are in rough shape though. Surprisingly, the intake valves seem to be worse for wear, not sure if I'm going to be able to save those.

I have never seen so many dowels in an entire motor as I've seen in this one head. It's crazy. The dowel EVERYTHING. I mean, that's good, but my god what a PITA. Pretty sure I've got them all, if not this'll be me when it goes back together: :icon_hyper:
