Default Fairing Repair

Ok guys , need to repair a couple of the fixings on the main left hand fairing . The rear fixing point is snapped off completely and missing so need some advice on the best way to go about it and the best stuff to use .

Bought some stuff called Plastech which I am using for a small repair , but its very expensive and it will take a lot to build up the missing fixing point . Was thinking of buying any old bit of battered fairing to cut out a piece of plastic and splice it onto my repair (as it wont be visible) or would I be better off using fibre glass?

Any advice ? Thanks guys.

It's easier to beg forgiveness, than ask permission..........
I used car rubber mudflaps for repairs on my one panel.......

Hi guys, for small cracks and easy snaps fix, I have a secret recipe given to me by an ancient...mechanic. add a little of "crazy glue" (??Kola Loca here in Mex) and then immediately dust on top a little of baking soda, this will make a bond so strong that none of my fixings has been broken around that area again.....I even used this like Pete said, to made new hand made pieces of missing plastic.

Good for me that my little son broke mom's favorite blender, so I had all the ABS plastic case for me to use at will

Cheers!!
Luis

You can use ABS plastic for plumbing. Its the same material that the fairing is made of. I used it to melt into several gouges and cracks and then sanded it down. I havent had as good luck with gluing on tabs though. I'll take Shadows or Luis's suggestions on glue.

I use soldering iron to weld plastic. I had several missing tabs and cracks on my 87.

Glass fibre wont stick properly to plastic, Hawkwind. Using a bit of donor plastic, superglue and a soldering iron is probably the best way to go (but stay away from the smoke, nasty stuff [:'(].)

Sport Rider magazine has an article on plastic panel repair: http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_0204_body/index.html.
Also, I've gotten this book on plastic panel repair out of my local library: http://www.urethanesupply.com/book.php. It will tell you more than you ever want to know about plastic repairs.
