Default 1987 cbr 1000f project

Hello everybody. I am new to doing forums but figured I could use some help as this is my first motorcycle project. I picked it up this summer and it is in need of tlc. the platics are very rough and someone did a rattle can paint job. I will be fixing them instead of buying new. I will be making some modifications to some of them to achieve a slightly different look. Engine seems pretty sound. I do have the typical cam chain noise that I will try to address. I will try and post as many pictures along the way. This was supposed to my winter project but I got a little jump on thing. Any help or advice along the way would be great.

Welcome to the forum. It is a good thing you want to fix the plastics, new old stock is next to impossible to buy.

Plenty of help here when/if you need it.

Welcome,

I to recently started winter project on my bike. I look forward to pictures and updates on your bike.

Just go slow and be patient, the plastic is tedious at times. Lol.

So there are 3 major modification I would like to do.
A- is to remove the license holder and turn signals and relocate the turn signals into the brake light assembly.
B- is to move the rear fender so it is hidden under the seat so more is visible around the tire.
C- slim up the front fender to look a little better.

I started the tear-down. Found the chain to be extremely loose. I feel very lucky that nothing had happened. Definitely going to do a better pre ride inspection from here on. Im soaking the chain in oil but I'm guessing it was pretty stretch out so I'm sure i will be replacing it.

Hello everyone. Sorry I haven't posted anything for a long time but I have a lot of progress to show you guys. The bike has 54,000 miles on it but it was in pretty good shape for that many miles, except plastics of course. Had to do an extreme amount of plastic repair. I feel like a plastic welding pro at this point. Ended up polishing the gas cap and getting rid of the oxidation. I ended up taking a lot off the bike to give it a more modern twist but keep the awesome hurricane look.

Primer and then paint. I wanted to keep the original theme of the hurricane but liven it up at the same time. I ended up spraying a galaxy black and a chrome rose red. The hardest part was trying to find some decent vinyls. The paint sprayed very nice just a couple runs in the clear nothing a bit of wet sanding won't take out. I have to say I found myself thrilled to finally get to the painting stage. I had to keep telling myself I'm working with very old and very cracked panels and perfection is out of the picture. Otherwise I'd be sanding till there was no panel left. I'm very happy with how the old hurricane together.
