Default Do not race a blackbird.

Hey all played around with my friends blackbird and my 1000F. We went way out in the country on a friendly bike ride. Yea I knew he was going to jump on me. We found a long country road with nothing but acres of cotton fields and nobody around i mean nobody. Well he slowed down to about a 5 mph roll. We were side by side and nothing but flat straight road where you could see for miles. He motioned for me to go first so I jumped on it hard. My bike lifted the front tire ever so slightly , a couple inches and carried it for about 10 feet.
I was about 1/2 a bikes length a head since he gave me the jump.

Through 2nd gear we were side by side. After that he started pulling away. I figured he had me by 4 bike lengths at the top of my 3rd gear and really starting to pull away!!! Went from a roll in second gear where I was pulling 7k (right in the heart of my powerband) held him off till I hit 9500, shifted into 3rd and here he comes , stayed in it and half way through 3rd and he comes rolling by like a frieght train and walking away!!! No need on going any faster it would have been real ugly for me. Those blackbirds inhale pavement....WICKED fast. So the father of the blackbird is proud of his son as David says. But i will say my friend said the ole 1000F gave him a tussle for a few seconds on the low end and has some nice grunt.

Well what did I expect from a 135hp bike vs 164 hp bike....Exactly what happened. With different gearing 16/45 on the 1000F i feel certain I could have beat him till the triple digit mark, maybe a little more. It would have been close but I think the 16/45 gearing would have done the job. After that its all bird....

I get complimented on my CBR1000F several times a week by other riders. 'Nuff said.

I can tell you when riding with other bikes...many years newer than my 94, some brand new, people always seem to walk right past the newer bikes and come look at mine and tell me how nice looking it is. Kinda pisses off the guys with the newer sport bikes. But it is was it is. Beautiful is beautiful.
Speed is not everything, but we know the ole 1000Fs are not slow by any means.

i class myself as a "capable ejit" on the bike, gixer 1000, falco's , R1, round the back roads and big straights, more than capable of sitting with them, and a few are track boys.
then some old fella, (over 65) took me over the mourne mountains, on roads i know well, and showed me up like a scolded child. he was riding a bmw1150rt.

so i bought a bmw1150rt.

ok its not fast, but it twisties and scrapes the pegs, which i'v never actually pegged the bird down.

its straight upright, blasting radio mp3 , and brilliant on fuel.

in the back of my head, i still love the bird, and i will have another soon.
i have one gall bladder op out of the road,
now waiting on one for my shoulder,
then rest it, and get a fresh bird again.

made up to 07 here, so there will be something when i'm ready.

now go get him that pint you owe him,
ps, you think you had him 1st 2nd and 3rd,, he was letting you ahead,
second gear hits 111mph, with no effort.

Bottom line is you were enjoying the hell out of your bike and that's what its all about. Nobody expected a cane to catch a bird As you say on lowered gearing you could have maybe run level till 100ish that's it..at best win a quarter mile if your friend botched his launch

30BHP makes a big difference and I doubt the 1000F makes 135 anyway

David
Here is a video of my ole 88 1000 Hurricane on the dyno. She hit 119 rwhp. She was rated at 130 hp. Pretty much stock except for the KN filter. Not sure what my 94 1000f would do but if I had to guess with the Two Brothers exhaust and KN maybe 118-122 rwhp. Most stock birds from what I have seen are in around 145 plus rwhp range. Plus the birds are about 25 to 30 lbs lighter than there father. LOL
Check out the video.
