Just bought a Mint 1991 CBR 1000F.
I rode it today for about 100 miles and noticed that the mirrors hug tight to the body.
I have to lower my arm to see in the mirror.
Anyone have the same problem?
Does anyone out there make a replacement mirror?
I was wearing full gear today and I suppose the warmer it gets the less cloths I will be wearing.
It just seemed weird that I had to turn my elbow in to see out of the mirrors.

 

I just made up some spacers out of solid foam. Problem solved.

Thats common on the mid size mirrors, you can get longer ones like the emgo type for $10-20ea. or just make spacers to go under the
Stock mirrors a 1/2 Thick, and get longer bolts for it

 

That is a common flaw with these bikes. They moved the mirrors out a bit on the 93-96 bikes. It sounds like that didn't completely eliminate the need for the elbow tuck.

 

All that's been said is true, but.... If you're wearing street clothes/jacket that are not form fitting they tend to billow in the air aggravating the problem. Also, the adjustment that might seem correct sitting still will often waste the available view by just looking at your arms or torso as you described. The best setting will actually be with the mirror pushed way to the outside, getting more of the adjacent lane. It will require using both but that setting will actually improve the view directly behind you as well. It doesn't seem right until you try it on the road.

I nearly replaced mine for the exact same reasons but found that the setting method just described improved the situation a lot, and that with time I got used to the rest and a slight tuck of the elbows. Actually, your elbows should not be way out anyway and this will help to force the optimum posture. Now I wouldn't want to change them.

See if that helps and maybe give it a little time for you to adjust. If it's still trouble down the road, the 600 mirrors had longer stems and will bolt on. Aftermarket as mentioned will often list them as interchangeable even though the stems are actually shorter on the 1000F OEM mirrors.
