Angry Did heads change over the years?

Guys,
I need some informed help here.
I have 2 exhaust studs that are completely messed up in my '96 (T) model head.
I've considered heli-coiling it but frankly it's taking hours to drill each one out.
I'm considering buying an old bike off ebay, pulling it's head off and dropping it onto my engine block.
Of course if someone on here in the UK has an old engine/head for sale then please contact me.
I need to know whether there have been any head changes and if so what year it happened?
So... there's the challenge for this weekend gents, anybody have any ideas?
Best regards
Steve

Speak to Andy ......Mo777 he has a spare engine in the north of England - maybe he'll sell you the head.

One difference I know of is that the early heads (pre-93?) had the vacuum balance ports on the carbs. The later heads have them cast into the intake ports.

There shouldn't be any difference between the heads.
However, I still think drilling and coiling may be the better solution. I completely understand your frustration, though...
Another one of our members is going through the exact same thing.

Yep Drilling is good but a bitch to do at that angle

When I've done it in the past at stupid angles I've used 90 dg angle drills
with bungy cords for adding pressure........just take it slow and easy
smaller good quality bit and widen out later........stop frequently to
measure depth.
