Cyclic noise on 2000rpm

Hello, I’m a new member, happy to be part of the cbr community.
I recently bought a nice CBR1000F 1995.
I noticed some annoying cyclic noise on around 2000rpm (especially in morning start- cold). Im attaching a link with a video I took this morning , hope the sound is clear enough
If anyone can identify the source of it. I would be grateful:)

thank you!

Have you tried using a screwdriver to narrow down the source of the sound?

Fisheron 09-25-2020 02:48 AM

Yep, I made some further investigation, using a screwdriver, it looks like coming from the front of the engine top end.
The noise in between 2000-3000rpm, when engine warms up the noise is reduced by 80%
I would suspect the cam chain/tensioner, but will be happy to get some advise here...

Cheers

It does sound like CCT.
What oil are you using?

Fisheron 09-25-2020 05:40 AM

Semi synthetic 10w-40

Maybe try Rotella T5. Its a Diesel oil.
You either need a Motorcycle oil or another type of oil that can withstand the pressures the gears put on it. A diesel oil works well. Many forum members use it.
If you don't use an oil designed to take the pressure of the gears in the transmission, it will loose its viscosity in about 300 miles or so from what I have experienced.
I use Rotella T 5myself and change it every 3,000 miles. I could go longer but I want to keep my CCT healthy.

The oil may help it quiet down once its running but the CCT is the Achilles heel with these bikes. I don't know if any are still available as we have all changed them.

Thank you TimBucTwo,
Already have a new tensioner, chain and sliders, I'm waiting for few more parts in order to start the CCT replacement project:)
I will try the diesel 10w-30 oil as you suggested

Thanks again

Looking at the shop manual, in the front of the book, on the left side of the page, it says to use 10w30 or 10w40 depending on temperature.
On the right side of the same page it says the standard weight is 10w40.
So perhaps this would be a better choice.

Some members use full synthetic Rotella T6.

Hi Guys

I've been away for quite some time and links to some of my "How To"s and other manual files became broken.

I hope I've fixed them now - some in my signature block below. Sorry to all those who sent me PMs & I didn't get back to you. Hope this update is helpful.

How's Stalag Victoria? Good to see you here.

Cheers, SB
