Hey Folks,
Does anyone one know if the Cane has a nortorious area of leaking coolent near the rad cap or surrounding areas? I've noticed coolent around the area in the past couple days and I thought I'd ask before removing the faring.

The only places that I know of is the overflow hose directly below the radiator cap (old age) and the 3-way joint below the thermostat can crack from the constant vibration of the hose clamps.

 

I've not had any coolant loss in almost 5 years, Gill, so not to my knowledge. +1 on whar Malbojah said tho' - only likely places for leaks in that area........

 

I had a pinhole leak in the 3-way joint that took me a wile to locate since it wouldn't leak until the engine would heat up and the pressure would build in the cooling system.

 

I had the same problem after I filled up my system for the first time in years. One of the coolant pipe fittings attached to the thermostat housing had a bad O-ring. It's cross section was pretty big, but I found a replacement in a AC O-ring kit. The fitting comes off with one bolt so it shouldn't be too hard to check. Also check the cap. If the gasket isn't perfect or the cap isn't very tight when tight, just replace it. Cheap insurance. Oh yeah, check the hose clamps too.

If you find the leak is from a leaky "o" ring don't buy the genuine Honda part. They are expensive & no different to the ones from your local hardware store that usually only cost a few cents. Hope the problem is a simple one. Good luck.

 

I think it was just a clamp, but I'm going to take it out for a ride too see if the leak stopped.

100% it will be hose clamps, however proper procedure would be to pressure test system however again most people dont have one, i would take the hose off and check for corrosion around pipe outlet

 

Hi Gill, I had a leak around the same area when I bought my Bike. Someone had tightened one of the clamps so hard, it had broken the 3-way joint under the clamp so it would only leak under pressure. Is your bike overheating (anormally that is!)? If so it could also be the thermostat not opening enough or a bad radiotor cap. If the cap cannot let the oberflow out, It will have to get out at the weakest point either a loose clamp or pin hole in a fitting. Hope this helps!
