Default Clutch or Cam Chain Tensioner

Hello Inmates,

How's it going?

My symptons

1. nasty rattle up to 4000rpm, stops as soon as i pull the clutch in
2. seems harder to change gears when warmed up, clunks more
3. had minute metal flecks in last oil change

apart from that the engine stills pulls well, no slippage in clutch and above 4000rpm no adverse engine noise.

CBRClassics cam chain would have to be starting to rattle after 10000 posts!

Sound Vid.........
(how do i do that?)

To busy riding the bloody thing, next oil change due in 450km, think i will pull the clutch cover and see what's up.

If the oil is real bad i will have to have a look inside as well

How many miles on the bike Johnno?
Are you saying the rattling stops every time you change gear at 4000 or above?
Kinda strange phenomenon.
IF you're changing the oil soon it may be as well to change the clutch plates/springs. At least take a look inside to see if anythings looking dodgy.
Be interested to hear this pans out. Keep us posted.

This weekend i will drain the oil through cloth to see what is left. i will pull the clutch cover to see if there is any sign of damage.
Will report back next week with the findings.

Thanks all for the response

When you check your clutch, check the clutch basket for wear grooves. It could be the cause of your shifting difficulties. I've seen this happen on dirt bikes.

Cant offer much on advice with clutches, but make sure you wear a full face helmet. It helps drown all those rattles!
