If it's like most bikes, you can adjust the slack at either end of the cable.

I usually back off the handle bar end, then take most of the slack from the
lever at the clutch housing. I do final slack adjustment (usually 1/4 to 3/8")
of take-up at the bar lever.

It's a good idea to use a cable-luber and spray-lube about every 500-1000 miles.
That keeps the "gorilla grip" from sneaking up on you.

The clutch on the 1000F is hydraulic.

There won't be 'free travel' as such, as it has hydraulc actuation. Does your clutch 'slip' or feel like it is about to slip on the upchange, it may be that your clutch plates are coming to the end of their life as I suspect mine are doing on my 1989 1000f-j, or it may be that the clutch fluid needs replacing. Clutch/brake fluid ages, absorbs water, etc' so doesn't act as it should, I'd replace the clutch fluid first, see how it feels before laying out for a set of clutch plates.

Cheers, Steve

As already stated , hydraulic , no free travel. However you could buy adjustable
levers that can change where the clutch bites relative to the action of the clutch
lever.

As mentioned it's hydraulic. Why do you think you need adjustment?

The lever goes all the way out before it bites , but doesnt seem to slip , will try a fluid flush and see what happens . Or like someone said maybe adjustable levers , my gsx1400 felt different

As long as there is no slippage, she should go about 80% out before it grabs.

If not for the slop in the lever it would grab instantly due to the hydraulic system being self adjusting.

Sounds like your good to go.

No mine bites much sooner than that. Have a quick look at the clutch slave cylinder down by the front sprocket (just trace the clutch line and you'll find it easily). Make sure it's blots are tightened up properly, this was a problem when I first got my bike, so well worth a look

It can't do any harm to change the fluid, especially if it's really dark, just bleed the line as you would do with the brakes.

Let us know the results, always good for future reference.

Sounds like a fluid change is in order as dark amber color fluid will do that and make sure the clutch slave on the sprocket cover is not weeping ......ask me how I know this ?
