I used running water to flush while motor idles. I do this way for my cars. How soon CT and CTT go bad? My CBR has 15k miles and has that noise. Is that caused by only balancer shaft clearance?
If it makes you feel better, mine has almost 60k miles and makes the cam chain noise. I've heard you should replace the chan around 75-80k miles, but some have gone longer. Its mostly a design of the tensioner that it making the noise in the chain.

malbojah,

Yeah, I feel much better after hearing your mileage. My another bike, 1978 CB750F has manual tensioner. I love that...

renxwar,

I am in North Raliegh, near the intersection of Capital Blvd. and Perry Creek Rd./Durant Rd. Also, walking distance from Matison Kawasaki/Suzuki Shop.

All,

I will do the CCT repair one of the following days. I have read a lot of threads both here and other places. Nearly all CBR1000's gets this disease, so I will start a post here and hopefully reveal the mystery of the CCT. I have quite a bit experience in repairs and modifications, so I feel I have a good chance Stay tuned..

I vaguely know where thats at.. I'm in North Durham, though I work in Raleigh. Mine makes the CC noise when its cold, but has no engine noise when its warm.. 26k miles. Have you done the balancer shaft adjustment? I read about it on here, it did away with some vibrations and noise I had.

I already tried balancer shaft adjustment, but still has that noise. I changed engine oil today, and it sounds like the noise has been reduced. I red some comments by Japanese CBR owners on the other site (sorry, in Japanese). They are talking about same issue. Maybe it is HONDA's fault.

When running 10W40....mine sounded like a diesel engine when at idle. When running 20W50 full syn, the noise is reduced, but can still be heard if you listen for it.

At low miles the cct should'nt be an issue. If your getting a clatter then look at adjusting the valve clearances... This may have been caused by previous owners reving the bike too hard when cold. The ballancer should only be adjusted when the bike is cold and follow the manual's guide. When I had a similar sound as a last resort I tried diesel to flush the engine and this can be found on a prievous thread, but mine had done 70,000 miles and the problem was cured. I dont think that you need to go to that stage. Try your valves first and see where that gets you......Good luck
