Unhappy CBR turning into a 2 cylinder Ducati

Hello everyone,

Been very busy lately on my new job, so I have not been checking in as frequently as I would like to, anyway it's my turn for ask for some advice.

About a week ago, I wanted to take my Colorina out for a ride, I did the routine process to start her up, choke down, press button and voila, but then I heard the engine not as usual, like muffled.

So I did the wet finger test on the tubes that are in front of the engine and form the mufflers, where you barely touch the tubes to see if they are getting hot, well as a reference, if you are sitting on the bike, the tube number 2 from left to right was cold, whereas the other 3 were flaming hot.

Mmhh!! I said, better shut her off and wait a little to see if gravity can help pouring some gas on that carb-cylinder.

Left the bike sitting for two days, and then tried to start the bike again, surprise!! I had an instant Ducati, where the engine was only running with the cylinders in both extremes of the engine, meaning that the two tubes in the middle were cold now!!, it was nice to hear my Colorina pounding like an italian 2 cylinder engine.

S**it!! now what, I did wait another two days with the bike resting and yesterday that I started the bike again, we had my old bike back again, running smoothly as she has always been, all 4 cylinders working and everything in perfect order.

I do not know what to do or think, as I want my rides when I want them and not when the Colorina's in the mood, I have my wife for that

Any suggestions?? BTW I usually use the bike at least once a week, so she is not really sitting for extended periods.

Thanks and Saludos,
Luis

Take the plugs out, clean and regap
Sounds like it could also be coil wires to plugs............
Maybe no fuel to the plug ?

Maybe it was just a small blockage, and has cleared now.
Just ride La Colorina, amigo mio !!

Thanks guys, will try to find a set of coils, do you know if a later model Cane will have the same ones that I have, I may have a way of ordering a set in the US but not sure if they will fit my model as I think the US will have spartes for models 1989 and on, and my model as you know is the first one 1987-1988 model.

Cheers!!

did you check for spark? i wouldn't order a set of coils without verifing that is the problem...they aren't cheap. could even be a loose coil wire.

I had similar problems and it turned out to be my vacuum line that opens the petcock. It was barley on and the bike was starving for fuel at times. I pushed it back on and everything is OK now.
