cbr 1000f wont cut off
hi all...went for a run friday night, stopped after about an hour for cuppa. put bike in neutral and it sounded like starter motor was trying to start bike constant. would not cut out with button. put it in gear then it would cut out with button. soon as i put it in neutral, bike starts again. when left in gear with keys out, neutral light remains on. any suggestions

RE: cbr 1000f wont cut off
Hi,
Check the wiring to the starter solenoid. Just had a look at the wiring diagram and without that being knackered, I think it would need two faults to have these symptoms. The wiring on the solenoid can definately be suspect. Look to burnt wiring.... I concentrated on one of the faults, the fact that with ignition OFF & neutral switch OPEN, neutral light is ON. I reckon that the feeds for the solenoid actuator are feeding BACK down the main ignition feed and powering no matter what. This SHOULD give all the symptoms you describe I think
Will have a closer look at manual tonight......

Here's the manual - won't be Greek after you have a look through it.

The starter solenoid is on the RHS of the bike, behind the middle seat fairing panel. There's a relay in there and a 30 amp fuse.
I think you may have a contact problem on the ignition switch - let us know how you get on. It's one or the other (or both) - can't see it being much else, but you know Murphy........
Oh, and welcome to the Forum - post up some pics of your bike, too

RE: cbr 1000f wont cut off
once again thanks for all ya time...with ignition off and keys outi have to leave bike in gear and the neutral light only remains on. if i shift into neutral ( with keys out ) bike will start and starter motor turns continuous. side stand light comes on with red ignition light when keys are in and turned... its spooky eh....[]

There are some other questions, you said that when you put the bike in neutral it starts, what happens when the bike is in gear and you pull the clutch lever in? (It should start with side stand up)
Also, with the bike running in gear and clutch in, what happenswhen you putthe side stand down? (it should die)
I am asking these questions to eliminate the side stand switch and the neutral switch and the cluch switch form the guesswork.
I agree with Shadow1 and Aracanth, It may be the starter switch or a short feeding the starter system but where?
The fact that the bike will not start in gear, somewhat eliminates the neutral switch.
As always post your findings. Good luck.
