camshafts

Does anyone know if there are still aftermarket cams available for 1987 cbr 1000's? A friend of mine had a bike with performance cams but I forgot to ask who made the cams. I know WES CAMS will hardface and regrind your cams.

Dunno where you are mate and I prolly cant help you from Aus anyways if you are in the US , but I can tell you that a regrind done properly is a good way to go... and usually a bit cheaper ...

I had my Kwaka cams re done for longer duration openings and exhaust and they were great.. loads more grunt all the way through the power band..

I have had dirt bike cams done for high lift and like many cars and bikes , high lift tends to make them run a bit rougher down low and idle a bit weird to sometimes... and the power can feel too snappy for me I think with high lift short duration...

good luck :D

BTW- I just noticed that this is your first post
...so...
Welcome to the CBRF ...

Performance cams are not really the problem - what you need is the specifications for the level of performance you hope to achieve - there's no point in whacking a fullrace set of cams in your bike if you use it on the street everyday and the power comes in at around 9000 RPMs if you get my drift. Much will depend on the exhaust system you are running, and having the valve timing properly set. Cams are only one part of the setup.
Good start would be to look up the standard profiles and then see if you can locate ready cut cams .I'll ask my buddy Donald who ran an 1150 bigbore kit and see if he has profile information.
You could of course go down 3 teeth on your rear sprocket - that'll give you around an extra 7 horse and improved snappy exceleration. Quick and cheap :)

I am very interested in this topic also.
Have spent nights trawling the net to find some with no real success.
(Bit like replacement fairings really)
Regrinds -Yes.
But new Billet cams?????????????
Hopefully Shadow will come back with something.

Are you looking for them for your 1200 ...? or have you another CBR1000F:D

Screw the cams. Get an exhaust system, then basically blueprint the engine. If I ever did all the work that I supposedly learned in my dyno class, my bike would be noticeably more responsive.

Mate the ZRX already has ZZR cams in, nice improvement with 2000 rpm more HP :D. Which actually dynoed last week @ 132.7hp rwhp @ 10,500 rpm @ a Dyno Day.
Some 60 bikes were dyno-ed on the day.
2 x Blackbirds also had a run, 1 with an Akra can pulled 130hp & 1 with a full Akra system pulled 137hp. This explains why they can't pull away from me on the road .
The Dyno was a Dyno-Dynamics which reads very conservitivly relative to the more common Dyno-Jet 250's.

Back to the Topic
I need cams for Project DragCBR, at least when the economy improves I will :).
Worst case scenario I will send the originals to Ivan Tighe Cams in BrisVegas. He has ground cams for my 6-Pak Chargers before:D.
