And yes, new parts certainly do break. I've been dragracing since 97 and have bought 400 dollar ignition boxes that were bad out of the box. Point is, it was kinda cool how something that normally would rip an aluminum case to shreds turned out to be harmless. I don't tell anyone how to run their machine and expect similiar courtesy in return.

56,000 miles and a very very small amount of rattle at start up. No CCT work has ever been done either.

If you'd said it that way in the first place - no problem.
Bordo is in Australia, so sleeping ATM.
I'll leave it up, so he has the chance to answer your comment himself.
If it terms into a slugfest, I'll just delete it all, so everyone keep it on the island, OK ?

Wow, that's impressive. I wasn't so fortunate with mine. And I only racked up maybe 125 miles a year on it (only used for 1/8 mile runs). I even used a late model tensioner hoping they had been improved somewhat. Rattling went away around 2K rpm's and since I ran a high idle running Keihin FCR carbs it wasn't really a problem.

Ok so I'm a moronic critic ?? I expressed an opinion and stand by it. At no time did I make a personal attack on you my friend. I thought thats what these forums were all about, expressing opinions etc. Blow the bike up I don't give a chit. If I want to express an opinion on how someone treats their bike or anything else on here I will continue to do so without any personal attack on anyone. Like Shadow said it is possible to disagree with someone and do it without it becoming anything other than that. I was just trying to say that if you treat a 20 odd year old bike like that and it lets go you'll be wondering why. If you don't like my posts don't respond. Its easy really.......

Anyways......Bassman: I don't think there's a hard and fast rule as to when you should change your chain. If you listened to Mr.Honda you'd probably be told to go to your honda dealership to have it changed at 50,000km or so (can't remember from the manual)$$$$.

If you thrashed the **** out of it all the time it'd likely clap out pretty soon but if you only give it full beans in the first three or four gears occasionally then it should last ages. I'm on 62000km ish and, so far, all's well.

BTW..One of the things I like best about this forum is the friendly banter and bullsh!t. Heated debate is sometimes unavoidable but there is no excuse for personal insults...unless it's Sprock and Dylan going at each other . I regard this as my business because I'm a member of this forum.

That's my

Telling someone they DESERVE to have their bike grenade a motor isn't personal? Are you serious? I take these machines personally. Whether my own, a customers, or a friends. A topic was being discussed and you come in with an off the wall, way off topic, personally offending (to me) comment like that. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, much less someone trying to lend advice. End of topic from my end.

Look we disagree on something. Now we either both get over it or this keeps up which is childish in the extreme. I'm happy to continue and agree to disagree.

Now that it's been settled, can we return to the original subject, ie
When should you change your cam chain and tensioner......
