Now, for the more important question Woof, How did you break it? Cheers (well sort of), SB |
Seb,
It was an innocent enough move. I parked on the sidewalk in front of a store and upon leaving, hopped down a curb, bottomed out on one of the fins that protect the header pipes. I really had no idea that my entire crankcase was draining out in front of my rear wheel until I leaned over and dropped the clutch. I was on the ground in the blink of an eye. A little fairing rash i can live with, but the bike is dead in the water until I find another oil pan. I know an'88 will fit |
Glad youre ok. Hope you find another pan.

Thanks guys.
To add insult to injury, I just paid for my stick coils today |
I would look on flebay and find someone parting out there's and send them a message. Wouldn't hurt to ask. Also how bad is it. could it be welded back
|
It's not bad ad the only current pan on ebay has the same repair. I'm leery though, If the repair is not sound and fails. It's sure disaster. I was lucky I was only in a parking lot.
Tough part about this search is it's a discontinued part. I've only found one new one for $112.00, IF, it's in stock. Anything used, I want unmolested if possible |
If a 95 will fit I'm your man. If you want it pm me your address and you can owe me a beer next time you're in NJ

Haven't heard from Sprock yet. He's gotta' have 15 or 16 of them laying around. Back to Indy's comment. Yeah, I'll go searching, I've been specific parts searching before and have found the sellers that are parting whole bikes with the "ask if there's anything you need" caveat. Part number search ( 11210-MM5-000 )shows '87'88 only |
Gimme me 15 mins I'll be baaaack :) to ya
And no I don't have any spares and part numbers for the sumps change through the years but all the gaskets are the same !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What does that tell ya ! Reckon you should take the good offer from PMCG Woofer as by my figuring his 95 pan will most certainly fit your 87 As I said all the gaskets being sold for all three generations these days carry the same part number meaning the bolt pattern is identical Looking under my 87 and 90 and 93 I can see no differences PMCG is a good man to offer it to you ! There is a 95 oil pan out on ebay for 65 buck approx and you can toggle back and forth with the repaired 87/88 on there too to compare visually - to me the only difference is the repair, dirt and age |
Thanks for that info, Sprock. I have found a '90 pan. Here's the link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tchlink:top:en Here's the link to the patched '88 pan 1988 Honda Hurricane CBR1000 - Oil Pan and Screws | eBay Sprock has got me on the scent. Anyone else want to chime in on the comparison? PMCG, Man, thank you so much for your offer, I truly appreciate it. Go and enjoy the 4th while I research the cross-application. We may be able to hook up on this. Thanks again |
Hey Dave, there are a couple of guys currently advertising on Trade Me (the NZ equivalent of EBay) that they are breaking 87/88's. If things don't work out up your way let me know and I'll chase them up for you.
Shipping to West Coast shouldn't be to scary, but I also realize that time is of the essence. Cheers TK |
Good deal - many is a part I got from Gus at Max as they are only
25 mins from here by bike - 45 by car :D

I've decided to take PMCG up on his offer. Here's a link to a '95 pan on ebay. I can see no difference.
Can you? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oil-Pan-Cove...ssories&vxp=mt |
none !
except under all that grime you'll find a part number for the 95 which will be different than the part number for your 87 - but other than that they are like twin sisters everybody would be happy with one or the other LOL :D ;) |
When I get it bolted up, I'll post it in the Alternative parts forum
...and thanks to PMCG (and everyone who chimed in here ), you're a lifesaver |
We'll have to wait and see as one of Shakey's mates said otherwise a few weeks ago
but - there was no further backup info on that thread or posts from back then. It may have been just because the part numbers were not a match - ! So I'm very interested in this outcome ! |
PMCG's '95 pan arrived today. I'm still waiting on the gasket but will do a test fit tonight and post results
|
fingers drumming - ever eager to hear of the result !

HONDA CBR1000F SUMP - NEVER BEEN ON BIKE BUT NOT IN ORIGINAL PARTS BAG | eBay I hope Shakey doesn't see this. There will be controversy for sure |
Woof - is it all bolted up and running good ?
As for those CB 1000 oil pans - good candidates for a meeting with an angle grinder - I'd say they could be made to fit :) |

As for those CB 1000 oil pans - good candidates for a meeting with an angle grinder - I'd say they could be made to fit :) Oh yeah. Gasket showed up last Thursday. In the interim I did 'Bears coil how-to. Let me tell you she's running great. Man, what a difference. As far as the CB1000 pans go. I think if you just remove the barrel shaped oil return pipe from an early model CBR, you can make that pan work. Or grind it down. Either/or To me, that cast in well and that barrel shaped pipe seem to serve the same function. That would be to regulate flow of return oil into the sump. P.S. I used the Permatex #1 to seal it up. In the past, I would have used the old-school Indian Head Shellac for this job |
Good stuff that Permatex #1 - great to hear all worked out well.
