RE: broken chain syndrome
You got mail dude -- I don't have a manual for your bike so I don't know the chain length or if it's a 630 or 530. Get in touch with Limpy or Brad and they can hook you up.
Other than the chain how did the bike fare? Examine the engine cases carefully for cracks -- hopefully they're good to go.

RE: broken chain syndrome
Ithink you have a 530 chain with approx. 114 links. That is if you have a bike no one has done a 520 conversion on. Um, I guess I should ask what year your bike is, huh? I recommend getting an x-ring chain, I put one on mine and I love it!! So smooth!!! Anyway, hope this helps. email me if you have any more Q's shane_workman@insightbb.com Definitely check your cases for small cracks or chips that may lead to cracks!

RE: broken chain syndrome
I'm curious.
When the chain broke were u going down the highway fast??? What kind of damage took place when the chain broke??? I'm really curious what happened. My chain is about dead now, I actually am replacing it this saturday morning!!! Its noisy, and I wouldn't be suprised if it had some kinks because of the noise. Definately not riding it crazy right now!!!! Too dangerous!!
I wouldn't run a 520 conversion cuz the bike is so heavy. I think it would eat a 520 chain faster! Just my 2 cents.

Gregg, I think the bike fared ok but not sure. Havent figured out how to get that silly cover off to check and dont know about that hose. I will be using the SWAG(scientific wild *** guess)method for my repair. I believe caution is best thrown to the wind.
Shane, I dont believe anyone has done a conversion to my bike, but i dont know. How can i visually check or measure with a mike to tell the diff. between these chains? Also my bike is a '91 and their are pics in the gallery on page 6 i think under "my '91 1000f"
Brent, I was having an unbelievable bad day that day(not to point fingers but women were involved!) if you know what i mean. So as to how fast, about 45mph most of the way through second getting ready for third and when i shifted i got a suprising lack of acceleration and engine noise. This did not help my day. good thing it happened were it did because it broke 4miles from home instead of 10miles away when i was at dragway 42 on sat. Possible this could be the reason for the brake. By the way the bike ran 13.56 with a 290lbs rider.

RE: broken chain syndrome
If your chain broke you should also replace the sprockets (both of them) since these components are "mated"...if you put a new chain on old sprockets ( or the other way around ) you will only get a fraction of the life that the parts are intended to last. And make sure you get the PROPER tensile strength of chain, and due to the size of the bike and its weight that chain is going to more expensive than a chain that is suitable for a 600..probally around $120 for a decent chain on up
I am sure I can get you chain and sprocket kit for only $200 or less...

RE: broken chain syndrome
I've had good luck with rk 530 xso chain and I use 114 link. I also run a 16 front and a 45 rear sprocket. It helps the bike jump out of corners and I haven't noticed any loss in mpg's. I'm pretty sure 114 is stock.
Here is one link, I have seen the chains for less, but I'm to lazy to look this late. http://www.indysuperbike.com/custome...t=23909&page=1
