Beautiful ride today back from Cheltenham to Surbiton.
Decided to test my brakes, and braked hard from over 100mph (on an empty road of course). Got a sort of ticking/chattering from the front discs. I was not overly concerned as my old 1000F-J back in the late 80's did that once or twice.
But can anyone explain what is happening? And is it something to do with 'floating' discs?

My guess would be that disks are heating up to rapidly.

Our bikes don't have floating discs. In fact the only close to floating is the bracket for the left side caliper. Anyway, did you hear it coming from the left front or right front? I have never experienced this, but one could imagine that the left side would be flexing in a pulsating fashion as it is the left side that flexes a little. As TimBucTwo said, you could have heated up your discs and created some glazing spots. What are your front pads made of? Are they sintered pads? Those work extremely well.
