Default blowing smoke when on the throttle

I went on a 260km trip today with 7 other bikes and someone said my'95 was blowing smoke when I got up it. It's done 125,000km and the compression is getting a bit lowand the CCT is about 60,000km old.

It starts easily, idles well, the compression is even between the cylinders, the fairing and frameis ingood shape. It'scomfortable and matches my leathers.

I needto get the rings and CCT done for sure.

I'm considering
[ul][*]sending the engineoff to get rebuilt -bored out a bit?[*]sand down and respray the fairing - debadged black and yellow[*]replace the steering and swingarm bearings[*]test the suspension and replace if necessary, and[*]give everything a really good clean[/ul]
I've never rebuilt a bike before,I've got the owner'sand workshop manuals.

Any advice would be great!

I wouldnt worry about the rebuilding the bike until it is below the minimum set by the factory.

Get a leak down test done to see if its the valves that are causing the problem. I ride with new bikes and even they blow a little bit of smoke when reved hard.

It depends on what kind of smoke your engine is blowing. More like white smoke (not steam), that is obviously burning oil. I used to have old CM400, and bought that for $250 USD. Mileage was unknown. After little while I bought that bike, I had been noticed that trimendous old consumption and smoking so bad like 2-stroke engine when I reved up . Unless you see significant oil consumption and 2-stroke like constant smoking, I bet your engine is still good. Light blue smoke is for CBR basically little rich on it's carburetorsetting. I am working on my 1978 CB750FII beside my 1987 1KFH. Air cooled engine wears little quicker than liquid cooled engine. Even though I see nothing wrong with cylinder. I put new rings on the pistons, and set the cylinder head back on the engine. If you have manual, rebuildingengine is not really hard thing. You just need patient and right information to do that. But, remember, once you start rebuilding , you would not have your ride if you don't have any other bike. That is the reason I bought my CBR. Good luck!!

Black smoke == rich mixture
Blue to white smoke == oil consumtion
White smoke == cooling liquid gets in the compresion chambers (cil head gasket or cilinder head craks)

Motor_Fan,

Thanks for your correction. Right, rich mixture is black...

Hmmm... I'll bet it could still be ride'n well, for along time.. check to see the choke cable hasn't "hung up" a ferrul, cause'n a rich condition. Free and clean, Ripp'n

Like above

- Black is rich
- Blueish is oil - When? All the time it is probably cylinders, On decel (with engine braking) it is the intake valve seals because you create a low pressure ("vacuum") sucking in oil past the seals.
- Excessive white is probably steam from hot coolant getting inside the CC.

Good Luck Friend!
