Default Blackbird have changed

Well I have done it this time I picked up my 07 blackbird on thursday well what can I say its a damb nice bike, still have my 92 CBR but will have to sell it only to the right person. You might recall that I posted a thread about a month ago about a mates blackbird and I wasnt that impressed he was a 03 model, well after riding the 07 model it feels totally different a totally different biek and hes was extremely well looked after.
Anyway I jsut wanted to say thank you to the people out there that have given the time to reply to my posts and offered their advise and comments you have been an asset. I will keep an eye out still on this site just in case I might be able to offer some assistance to someone.

Thanks

Wazza

Nice bike. I'm a little surprised though, since the 1100XX is no longer available in the US. But then again, the 1000F was discontinued here after 97 but lasted thru 99 elsewhere.

Good for you to have got a new greatbike :-). What did make you feel the -03 was different than the -07? Was it the engine performance or the bikes handling? There should be no changes to the engine between –03 and -07 but Honda seems to have raised the rear 30 mm on -07 compared to previous version to make it turn quicker. Shimming the rear shock 6 mm, which is a very common mod to Blackbirds, does this. Other changes could be the exhaust system due to harder noise and emission rules on some markets but that should not make the –07 to run stronger than previous models. I’m convinced the –07 runs absolutely great and strong as they all should, could there have been some specific problem to the –03 engine, or perhaps it had flattened tiresif the handling was bad?

She rides very smoothly the 03 I rode had only 5,000 put on her in nearly 4 years so it probably wasn't run in properly as it felt as if you would fall in a corner and response time wasn't great either. As for two up she runs better than one i feel begin a lot lighter than my 92 CBR. Am about to go on a ride of about 500 Ks tomorrow so I will no more about how she handles etc as I have only done 60 Kls on her but she feels stronger or smoother or something you know what I mean it just feels better it might be because it is new.

If the 03 tipped felt tippy into corners I guess the tyres was flattened and perhaps the plugs was fooled or something similar. I'm sure you will have a great 500 km trip tomorrow !

Yes50 yearsbodys seems to feel very well when the bike is better than the one in use or of the same type and in like new condition. I tried a new ZZR1400 last year while I had the Hurricane and was almost shocked how smooth it felt. The Hurricane, which had felt real OK before, felt like en old tractor for a day or two after that and never came back to the genuine feeling it had provided before the test of the 14R. There is no doubt though that the CBR 1000 F is a very good all-round bike but at some point they will show unwanted signs of wear if they are old. Later I tested a Blackbird -97by coincidence when I stopped to eat in a little town and there was a motorcycle store over the street. The Bird directly felt as genuine and also almost as strong as the 14R, so after some price discussions I got a deal which I will never regret. After some time I found that the Bird didn't pull as well as initially felt and how they are normally claimed. I was annoyed by a weak midrange at all speeds and the power after 250 km/h was not what I'm used to with my other bike that is a GSX R1000 -03. I got the head ported and installed other camshafts and a full race system. Now it is stronger than the GSX R at high speeds and also very strong at low revs and midrange. The later was a surprise since getting more power usually leads so weaker low rpm power. I also raised the compression to more than 12 to 1 and lowered the so-called squish height, piston to head clearance, which explains the achieved low rpm boost.

Your bike has FI and mine carbs, so your bike is more refined from the beginning and there is no need for to go true what I did. Anyway, I'm really happy for the Bird in the shape it is now and I'm sure you will enjoy your new and very fine bike a lot. I felt the sitting position was better on the Hurricane than the Bird so i have put VFR 800 bars on mine that make them feel the same.
