Default Bike is on the side of the road

Started losing power and couldn't get over 4k rpms then just slowly died. I'm thinking flooding out?

I wanted to blow the engine out on the highway before doing anything else to it but there was too much traffic and I kept the rpms low and she started bogging and was unable to get the rpms above 4k and she just slowly went to sleep.

I left her there and will go back with a buddy in a while to see if she'll start and get her home. otherwise it's towville.

I knew there was a carb issue when I synched them and #1 was bounceing all over the place but hoped it was a sticky float (from sitting) and would work it's way out.

In retrospect I probably should have just pulled the carbs and rebuilt them but I really wanted to get the wind in my hair.

It sounds like a fuel blockage. Did it miss and pop and fart before ceasing to proceed?

I'd start at the petcock filter and work my way down to the carbs.

Cheers, SB

If you're gonna do the carbs, you really want to follow through.
If you're gonna go to the trouble, might as well start at the beginning.

Here's the thread that broke my cherry...

https://cbrforum.com/forum/how-mecha...r-carbs-40713/

I do want to point out another possible source of your troubles. Your r/r
may be suspect. When they start to fail, they'll heat up and quit delivering
sufficent power to the coils. Engine stalls, dies...cools down and then restarts...

Runs for a bit, gets hot...

Here's a few resources that will let you check that aspect of the bike's health...

Charging System Diagnostics - Rectifier/Regulator Upgrade - Triumph Forum: Triumph Rat Motorcycle Forums

https://cbrforum.com/forum/f2-tech-9...-solved-27739/

Technical Resources - Resources for Electrical Systems on Motorcycles and ATVs - ElectroSport

SB's got a point, too. You might check your tank and fuel-filters.
That's a cheap and useful thing to do, regardless of whether you have issues or not.

Good luck, Ern

a gradual run down like that - usually means - no gas imo - blocked tank breather
messed up petcock etc.

Thx for the info guys, Just went back and the bike got the revs up but after 1/4 mile same thing. Had to leave it again. Will get it towed tomorrow.

Reading links now.

Ohh forgot to mention I stopped for gas before hitting the highway and it was tough to re-start (bike was warmed up) which is what is making me think flooded and probable fouled plugs.

Reading all this R/R stuff right now. Looks like a Pita.

pop the gas tank cap - she might limp home !

reckon the tank is not breathing and setting up a vacuum

and if it is this - got a really neat spot you can drill a tiny hole
in your gas cap for a breather that will still drain into the gas
overflow line if gas ever did splash out (mine never has)

She's home! 1 hour before I got there she was towed. Lomg story short sh'e back home and looking at a carb rebuild? I plopped a battery booster on her and she started right up so i gotta check r/r. Whats the best link for an easy test for bad r/r? The links I saw earlier for bad r/r not for rudimentary check.

Put a volt meter on your battery with the revs above 3000RPM - if you get less than 13.5V going into the battery, your reg/rec is probably suspect.

CHECK YOUR TANK BREATHER
check your petcock - INNER FILTER COULD BE BLOCKED.
