bigger tyres on a 87 ,worth the bother??
Hi all
i have a 87 model (well its still sat in my mates unit 160 miles away but its there lol) and obviously it still has the skinny tyres on,
so my question is what are the benifits of fitting larger wheels from a later model besides the obvious looks improvment?
does it make it a better ride in any way??
Thanks Rob

Hey:
It depends on your riding style if it is worth it. If you are just a putter or cruiser probably a waste of money. If you want to get all you can out of your bike and are an agressive rider then they are. They give you a larger, more modern tyre choice, by going to the wider wheels. You just have to determine if it is worth the expense to you. And with the right tire choices yes it will give a better ride but enough to warrant the change is directly dependant on the cost of the wheels you get.

I'm no expert, but I would have thought that spending some time getting the suspension set up right would overall produce more benefit than changing the wheels and tyres? Probably cheaper too!
Possibly the biggest benefit, is the larger range of tyres that you can choose from with the later wheels..... I found I was limited to only a couple of options when I was last looking for some new rubber for mine....
