Looks to me that I have been lucky. A dent in the yoke only. I rode the old girl home through the hills & the freeway after the accident & all seemed ok. Still if I have to I'll replace the frame or at least get it checked.
Here is a photo but I was staggered by how dirty she was under the fairing.

Ahh that's nothing. Lucky dog! I thought the dent was around the steering head.

What you really should do is loosen or remove that engine mount bolt and spacer. Then try to bend it back just enough so the spacer can easily slide in. This way you are removing any extra stress that the bend can exert onto the cylinder head and engine.

It's know to be a really strong frame, but
for my own peace of mind, I'd either replace it
or at least have it x rayed to see if there's any damage.
That's a serious dent in my book......................
but maybe I'm being over cautious - I prefer it that way.
You live longer.

All that I had seen till yesterday was through the broken plastic so when I saw the dent I expected the worst. After all it was a hard hit. Just goes to show how tough these old girls are.

I don't like that nasty crack in the dent. That is not good. I would find a frame with similar diameter tubing and have the old section cut out and the new section welded in. That crack will grow.

The dent is OK but the crack is nasty. You may be able to repair it by first finding the ends of the crack and drilling an arresting hole at each end. This will stop it from cracking further. You may be able to have the crack ground and welded.

The photo helped.

id keep riding it like that, never try to cut weld a frame causes a weak spot and strength will be less than what you have their, either ride like that (which i would if it were mine) or scrap frame good luck and yr lucky that it didnt hit yr leg or that would have been 9 months in plaster!

A motorcycle is made up of an engine, tires and a frame. You can have a crappy engine but you need good tires and a good frame.

Thumbs up

Sorry TimBucTwo but what looks like a crack is some paint off the fairing. There is only a dent. At this point in time sighting down the sides of the frame it looks as though the motor hasn't been shunted sideways but I need the use of more than one hand to start checking any further. Anyway there is a place not far away that specializes in motorcycle frames. Once I'm mobile again I'll let him have a look.
As far as me taking the hit....I did. Broken wrist, plenty skin missing off the knee & plenty bruising up my arm all from the tree I hit. Shows the old human body is a bloody tough piece of engineering. One would have thought for a hit like that I would be a lot worse & no I haven't bought a lottery ticket. I think I used up all my luck.
Before I forget thanks for the input from all.
